Zones vary by species

Growth habit Group 2, Low, clumping

Impatiens omeiana (zone 6) from China is a handsome foliage plant that grows about 18 in. (45 cm) high. It forms spreading clumps of upright stems set along their lengths with narrow dark green, gently scallop-edged leaves with distinctive yellow midribs and red leaf stalks. Starting in midsummer, orange-yellow helmeted flowers emerge from the upper leaf axils. It is easy to grow in a cool spot but it can swamp more delicate neighbours. There are several forms in cultivation varying in the intensity of the green, yellow or red leaf colouration.
